With the case of the Luminor from 1950, OFFICINE PANERAI have created a connection to the history of the legendary diver’s watch, and in doing so, they've created a time device which remarkably embodies the manufacturer's drive towards development. This model is powered by the automatic calibre P.9000, which has been completed in Neuchâtel. The spectacular white dial on this PANERAI PAM 499 characterises this model, which offers a new aesthetic interpretation to the functionality of the Luminor Marina.
The PANERAI PAM 499 – an Icon in fine watch design. The marine diver’s watches from OFFICINE PANERAI lay concealed for many decades. It wasn't just the success of the manoeuvres which the accurate time keeping of these watches was responsible for, rather the survival of the combat divers too. The highly resistant and waterproof PANERAI Luminor excels in extreme conditions and during bad visibility as a reliable time-keeper. Significant traits of the Luminor from 1950 can be seen in the Panerai 499. To opt for this Luminor 1950 3 Days Automatic Acciaio PAM 499 is to purchase an authentic reincarnation of the historic watch with the white dial.
The step in development from the Radiomir to the Luminor is visible in the crown-protection, which protects the dial and the movement from the salt in water and the pressure of the depths. The hugely reworked lugs are also the result of this device's capabilities in deep water. Proportionally, the PANERAI PAM 499 matches the historic Luminor perfectly, though the bulk of the brushed steel case is, with a diameter of44 mm, slightly smaller. This contemporary model, as with its historic counterpart, is clearly visible in the dark. This feature is ensured not only through the crystal white dial, but also the fluorescent Super-LumiNova® markings.
The three-day power reserve guarantees that the mechanism P.9000, visible through the glass base of the casing, maintains its 28,800 alternations per hour. There are 197 elements which have gone into creating this exclusive automatic calibre, among which are the Glucydur® balance, 2 barrel springs, as well as the Incabloc® anti-shock device. This is a complete in-house design, which demonstrates fully the exceptional development in these luxury watches.
The white dial of the PAM 499 displays the date at 3 o'clock and at 9 o'clock, the small seconds – characteristic of the Luminor Marina – can be seen. Although the colouring on this model is nothing less than contrasting, it certainly reflects another step in iconic Italian minimalistic design. The combination appears timeless with the black calf leather strap. This model is delivered with a rubber strap and steel screwdriver to change the straps.
