In the highly limited version, the PAM 598 revives the legendary Marine Diver watch in the Radiomir case. Functionally expanded and uniquely refined. With the date display, second time zone and small second at 9 o'clock, the model achieves a high level of functionality. As a valuable material, a tough red gold was chosen. Following this, the movement combines visually fascinating facets with uncompromising performance.
High pressure and the risk of corrosion risk in salty sea water make the highest demands on all marine instruments. In the strictest secrecy, the watch manufacturer OFFICINE PANERAI from Florence made a military watch for a selected group of combat divers in the Italian navy. This was done under the direction of Guido Panerai in 1936 with components from Montres Rolex SA in Geneva. Numerous innovations made possible both the adaptation of the Radiomir to the adverse environment and its good handling in military use. Even today, it shows the characteristics of its historical origin.
The polished 18K red gold case of the Radiomir 3 Days GMT Oro Rosso shows the elegance of the cushion-shaped cases often used at the end of the 1930’s. Like the historic Radiomir, the PAM 598 benefits from a screw-down, and therefore particularly waterproof, winding crown. With a water resistance of up to 50 meters, you can enjoy this model in the element for which it was designed.
With a diameter of 47mm, the PAM 598 matches the historic large-case format. The size of the dial, and in particular, the fluorescent markers and numerals make for easy reading in low-visibility conditions. Even in 1938 the PANERAI already used two superimposed discs to reinforce this luminosity. The deep blue sandwich dial of the PAM 598 is decorated with a fine sunburst finish, making it reminiscent of the beauty of a calm lake. A warm red radiates from the precious red gold and creates a pleasant contrast. The markings are fine-tuned and with the help of the alligator strap with removable loops, they continue this exceptional colour scheme. The Radiomir 3 Days GMT edition of the Oro Rosso is limited to only 200 pieces, which guarantees a high retention value.
The glass caseback allows the completely independently developed calibre P.3001/10 to be admired. For the PAM 598, the movement was beautifully skeletonised. A glass exterior allows a view of the otherwise hidden uniqueness of the movement. The presentation of the 210 components, which are all post-processed by hand, represents the highest Swiss quality. From the delicate, partially gilded bridges with their bevelled edges and the impressive circular graining, the artful aesthetics of the structure are in the foreground. The movement operates at 21,600 vibrations/hour and has a Glucydur® balance as well as Incabloc® anti-shock protection. In addition to the hours, minutes and second hand at 9 o'clock, the display enables precise time synchronisation with a second time zone. The mechanical calibre is wound by hand and with help of two barrels, a three-day power reserve can be achieved. A special feature shows up when viewing through the glass exterior, because the linear power reserve indicator is located on the back.
