When Guido Panerai was renowned for his divers’ watches in the 50’s. He received a commission from the Egyptian navy to supply a new divers’ watch. The model 6154, considered “old” at the time was supplied in a small production run. It only became clear to Paneristi many years after manufacture that the amount of radioactive radium “deliberately” contained in the dial was so great that the once black dial was turning the brass into a copper-coloured dial. Collectors named this model “Egiziano Piccolo” to differentiate it from the 60mm size successor from 1956.
The PAM 662 is a limited edition from 2016. Due to the high level of auction results in recent years, interest in the original, old PANERAI watches has grown. However, it’s not unusual for the highest prices to be paid for them. In the Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciaio, OFFICINE PANERAI presents a genuine replica of the Egiziano Piccolo. The Super-LumiNova® luminous material is set flush into the brown dial.
The Radiomir 1940 case is based on a further development of the Radiomir 1936. The solid lugs are one essential difference. The winding crown with the OP logo on the PAM 662 is also the same size as the original. The Radiomir 1940 3 Days Acciaio is powered by the renowned 5.3mm thick P.3000 calibre, consisting of 164 components, with a 3-day power reserve. The manually wound, mechanical mechanism is very robust, as was the Rolex mechanism in the orignal version of the PANERAI 6154.
PANERAI have fitted a dark brown “Ponte Vecchio” calf-leather strap with beige coloured stitching to this model ex works. To go with it, they have mounted a steel pin buckle. With water-tight performance of 100 meters, OFFICINE PANERAI guarantees the quality of the polished steel case. This watch is, and will remain, the highlight of your watch collection.
